I could not find a Hettich original hinge, after travelling to 4 different stores in the GTA. The dimensions were perfect and works and seems to be a stronger hinge than my originals, GREAT!!!

My lid isn’t near 50lbs and they do not hold it in place unless it is fully open. But does hold strong when fully open.

The hinge’s friction tension is adjustable, allowing it to be tightened or loosened depending on the weight of your lid and the speed you want it to close. I installed it on my wife’s 60-year od toy chest, that we now use for our grandkids when they visit. My wife mentioned that she feared the lid could be accidentally closed on one of our young grandkid’s finders, causing great pain. On one of the pictures, you’ll see the lid has been closed to about half-way, and it stys there until you add more pressure to have it close. This hinge checks all the boxes: attractive, fairly easy to install (after a wooden brace was secured for the bottom of each bracket), adjustable, and unobtrusive (from the outside). Well worth the money.

These were easy to install. I was replacing failing 10 year old units. Since I was replacing, there was no need for instructions. However, if these were new, then the instructions would be an issue. They are printed on the bag. The type is incredibly small and only meant for those with exceptional vision. Otherwise grab a magnifying glass. Also note that the dimensions shown on the instructions are in millimeters. So there’s that too.

Like others have said, the instructions are a bit weird. The first one took me 30 min to install, reinstall, install, reinstall, install. The second one took <5 minutes. Just follow the pictures…the text is confusing. Measure the distance needed from the borders. Attach the plates by themselves. Then hook up the arm, and done!

Missing some parts. Don’t even try to make sense of the ‘instructions’. Trial and error (plus several trial holes) got it to work.
